It provides mobile fixed and long distance telephony as well as data transmission services primarily using GSM technology throughout Brazil. TIM Participacoes is a subsidiary of TIM Brasil Servicos e Participacoes a company owned by Telecom Italia. The company started operations in 1998 and is based in Rio de Janeiro. In 2014 the company launched a package granting customers unlimited use of the OTT messaging service WhatsApp in which they can use the app while in TIM s 3G or 4G network without affecting their contracted amount of MB or GB. The deal is the first between WhatsApp and a Brazilian operator. |
