Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) is the primary telecommunications provider in The Bahamas offering telephone broadband and mobile services across the country. Since creation October 5th 1906 BTC has supported the advancement of The Bahamas’ competitive advantage in the international marketplace by developing and maintaining the most innovative cost effective telecommunications solutions for our customers. On April 6th 2011 the Government of The Bahamas and Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) privatized BTC transferring 51% of the public corporation to CWC for a purchase price of $210 million. Since this time the company has undergone a number of improvements including new payment methods including online airtime purchases a single number call center along with the elimination of long distance cell phone charges between islands. The new leadership has also invested $500 000 in developing the largest CWC store across the Caribbean here in The Bahamas and is currently completing a multi-million dollar network overhaul to support better cellular call and data quality. BTC is the lead sponsor of Bahamian sports teams including the Olympic and Carifta teams and the country’s largest cultural celebration: Junkanoo. In 2009 BTC developed the BTC Starmaker – a reality TV show series that acts as an avenue to expose the talents and develop public relations skills of Bahamian youth.
